Lincoln Tells a Joke: How Laughter Saved the President (And the Country)

Biographies for children keep getting better and better! This beautifully illustrated book reveals a side of Abraham Lincoln that not everyone is aware of, given the somber portraits we find in textbooks. As Krull tells Lincoln's life story, she highlights significant events with specific examples of how Lincoln inserted humor. For example, revealing his opinion about his disapproving in-laws, he once said, "One d is enough for God, but the Todds need two." This book would be great in the classroom during a study on Lincoln and the Civil War, as it makes him seem more like a real person and not just some stoic figure from history.
